Red Ribbon Week is Here!

Red Ribbon Week is a national drug awareness and education campaign to show intolerance for drugs in our schools, work places, and our communities. It has been an annual event since 1988 to honor the memory of Enrique “Kiki” Camarena. He was a Drug Enforcement Agent who lost his life fighting the battle against illegal drug trafficking in our country. In his honor, CA celebrates this week each year with a week of special-themed days! We encourage you to discuss the dangers of tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs with your children this week.

We will have the following themed days this week:

  • Monday, Oct. 21: Wear Red Day
  • Tuesday, Oct. 22: Give Drugs the Slip Day – Students and staff may bring slippers to wear while inside.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 23: Team Up Against Drugs Day – Students and staff may wear the colors of their favorite sports team.
  • Thursday, Oct. 24 – It’s Groovy to Be Drug Free Day – Students and staff may wear tie-dyed groovy 70’s style clothes.
  • Friday, Oct. 25 – Paws-itively Drug Free Day – Students may bring a favorite SMALL stuffed animal to school (and remember, it’s also Picture Day at CA!).

Students who choose to follow the themes on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday will be permitted to dress down on these days. Students may also dress down on Friday for School Picture Day, if you wish.
